What is 7 Layer Salad?
Seven Layer Salad is an American staple for any sort of gatherings! It’s great for parties, potlucks, luncheons, and funerals! I’d be surprised if you find someone who has never tried this salad before.
This salad is exactly as it sounds, it’s a salad that is built with 7 delicious layers. These layers typically consist of lettuce, hard-boiled eggs, peas, tomatoes, bacon, and cheese!
The creamy homemade dressing also makes up a layer.
This recipe is one of those recipes that gets better over time. The longer it sits, the better the flavors incorporate and the better it tastes!
HOW TO PREVENT 7 LAYER SALAD FROM GETTING SOGGY
To make sure the salad doesn’t get soggy, there are a few things you can do.
Rinse and dry the lettuce thoroughly and remove excess moisture. The best way to do this is by using a salad spinner and then laying the lettuce on a dish towel to soak up any remaining water.
Use veggies that maintain crispness like peas and cherry tomatoes. I also like to keep the bacon bits and cheese on top.
When serving the salad, it’s not necessary to toss the dressing. Everything will all come together perfectly when the salad is scooped out with a large spoon. Plus this ensures any leftovers stay just as crisp and delicious!
HOW TO PREVENT 7 LAYER SALAD FROM GETTING SOGGY
First, dry the lettuce thoroughly and remove excess moisture. The best way to do this is by using a salad spinner and then laying the lettuce on a dish towel to soak up any remaining water.
Next, use veggies that maintain crispness, even after a day or two. Although some recipes use chopped tomatoes and mushrooms, I don’t recommend this because they contain too much moisture. If you’d like to add tomatoes use uncut grape tomatoes.
Lastly, when serving the salad it’s not necessary to toss the dressing with the lettuce and veggies. The dressing, veggies, and lettuce all come together perfectly when scooped out with a large spoon. Plus this ensures any leftovers stay just as crisp and delicious!
