BBQ Ribs in the Oven
These are the best ribs! Baking low and slow is the secret to fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs in the oven. The homemade BBQ sauce makes these!
Ingredients
- 2-3 pounds baby back ribs
Dry Rub
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons pepper
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
BBQ Sauce
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 Tablespoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Heat oven to 275°.
- Whisk together all of the dry rub ingredients in a small bowl.
- Season both sides of the ribs with the dry rub. Place the ribs meat-side up on a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil.
- Cover the baking sheet tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake until the meat falls easily from the bones, 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours. I like to check the ribs after 2 hours to see how they are progressing. The ribs are done when the meat is cooked through and tender and the internal temperature is between 190-200 degrees.
- While the ribs bake in the oven, make the barbecue sauce. Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and set aside until the ribs finish roasting.
- Remove the ribs from the oven, discard the aluminum foil, and generously brush both sides with barbecue sauce.
- Move an oven rack near the top of the oven. Turn the broiler to high and broil the ribs for 3-4 minutes, just until the barbecue sauce begins to caramelize. (Keep a close eye on the ribs while they broil so the sauce does not burn).
