How to Make One Hour Cinnamon Rolls
- Add the milk, sugar, and yeast to a stand mixer with the dough hook. Whisk gently to allow the yeast to activate.
- Melt the butter and allow it to cool down to a warm temperature so it doesn’t kill the yeast. Add it to the bowl, along with the egg.
- Add the flour and salt to the bowl and mix on low speed until combined. Once the dough comes together, turn the mixer up slightly and allow it to knead for 3-4 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in a larger bowl filled with warm water to help the dough rise. Let it sit for 20 minutes while you prepare the filling.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Grease a cast iron skillet or a baking dish with butter and set aside.
- Flour your work surface and place the dough on top. Roll the dough out evenly until you have a rectangle roughly 18 inches by 12 inches.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.
- Cut the dough into eight equal pieces using a pizza cutter, then roll each piece up individually into a tight roll. Repeat with the remaining strips of dough.
- Place the cinnamon rolls in a cold oven and set the baking temperature to 375. They will rise again while the oven preheats. Cook for 25 minutes in total. Depending on how long your oven takes to preheat, add two to three minutes if the rolls require more cooking time.
- While the cinnamon rolls bake, mix the frosting ingredients until smooth.
- Once the rolls are golden brown and baked, frost them with the frosting and enjoy them warm.
