Sourdough Starter Rolls
The sourdough stater saga continues! Sourdough adds a touch of its distinct flavor and chewiness to these light, fluffy, buttery rolls. Again, for this recipe, I am using my sourdough starter that was gifted to me. You will need a starter for this Sourdough Dinner Rolls recipe!

Why are the rolls touching in the pan?
These rolls are baked in smaller baking dishes, ensuring that each roll retains its soft, pillowy texture on all sides, while getting a nice golden brown color on the bottom!
You can bake these in round or square dishes, about 8 or 9 inch pans will work best!
Also, you don’t have to have them touching if you don’t want to. You can also spread them out on a cookie sheet and bake them that way as well. We love the pull apart ones!
How many Sourdough Dinner Rolls will this recipe make?
This recipe will make between 13-16 rolls depending on the size of dough balls you roll. If you want larger rolls, plan on making less. If you want to stretch the dough and get a lot of bang for your buck, you can make up to 16 sourdough rolls!

Sourdough Dinner Rolls
These easy Sourdough Dinner Rolls are light, fluffy, and buttery delicious! Seriously, so soft and flavorful! Plus, they won't take you all day.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup fed sourdough starter*
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup dry milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients to a stand mixer with the paddle attachment and beat until dough is formed. You may need to add additional flour or water, until you achieve a soft dough.
- Switch out your paddle attachment for your dough hook (or knead by hand on a floured surface) and knead for 3-5 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth.
- Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover, and allow it to rise at warm room temperature until it's nearly doubled in bulk, 60 to 90 minutes.
- While the dough is rising, lightly grease two 8 inch baking dishes.
- Next, divide it into 16 pieces. Shape each piece of dough into a ball. Place eight balls in each of the round pans. (balls shouldn't touch one another at this point.)
- Cover the pans with a towel and allow the rolls to rise for one hour, or until they are puffy and double in size.
- While the rolls are rising, preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 24 to 26 minutes, until they're a light golden brown on top.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and top with butter while hot.
- Enjoy!
Notes
*Fed sourdough starter means that your starter has been prepped the night before and left on the counter. Feeding the starter is simple, for this recipe, you would feed your starter 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup of water. Cover it and place it on the counter overnight. The next day, remember to reserve 4 tablespoons of starter for next time.
*Measure out 1/2 cup for this recipe, reserve the 4 tablespoons, and discard the extra.
