When the weather gets warm, grilled corn on the cob is always on the menu. This cooking method is super quick and easy to do! I like to grill my corn on the cob with the husks still on! Let me teach you how to make corn on the cob on the grill! We make this recipe all summer long and I think you will do the same! Make it with me!
Picking Out The Corn
Before you can get to that first bite of grilled corn on the cob, you have to pick out the best possible ears of corn. Here are some quick tips!
- Look for ears with tight green husks and golden brown, slightly sticky tassels or the hairy bit up top.
- Avoid brownish crackly husks and dry or black tassels.
- Feel the ear for plump kernels, skipping those with holes where kernels didn’t grow.
Preparing the Husks
I leave some of the husks on for the grill! I mindfully trim the stalk’s tassels and peel back a few layers of the husk, so the grill can get to work faster on the corn.
Leaving some of the husk intact prevents the corn from drying out on the grill and effectively steams the corn. It also makes peeling and getting rid of the silk easier.
Soak the Husks
A quick soak is all you need to add moisture to your cob and allow it to “steam” while it is on the grill.
I simply add my husks to a large bowl of water with a little bit of salt for 5-10 minutes is all. I want the corn to absorb some of the moisture and water before I throw it on the hot grill.
How long do you grill corn on the grill?
How to grill corn on the cob in the husk? After the soak, you can simply throw the corn right on the heat of the grill! Yep, you read that right, direct heat cooks corn the best.
The husks may become blackened and burn on the outside, but that just adds delicious flavor to the insides! Plus, the husks are easy to remove once they are cooked.
