This slow cooker french dip sandwiches are unbelievably delicious and crazy tender! The meat is cooked low and slow to create the most flavorful bite! I then place the prepared meat on toasty hoagie buns with melted swiss cheese and savor. every. bite! My top tip with this recipe is to sear the outsides of the meat first, before adding it to the slow cooker to lock in moisture and flavor!
Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches
French Dip Sandwiches have always been a family favorite at my house! The meat is so tender and flavorful and this dinner is so easy to make!
I like to cook up my roast in the crockpot on high all day! I love a good set it and forget it recipe.
You could also cook the roast up in the Instant Pot if you are pressed for time. Simply add all the ingredients to the pot, and manually set thee pressure for 60 minutes.
Whichever way you choose to cook it, the meat is sure to be amazing!
What Roast & Bread Should I Buy?
I always say when choosing a roast at the grocery store, when it doubt, buy the chuck roast! It’s sure to be tender and cook up nice and evenly.
A round roast will also work for this recipe. You want to watch the for the pounds when making your purchase. Get a roast that is about 3 pounds.
For the bread for the sandwiches, I like to head to the bakery department rather than the bread isle.
I like to look for fresh bakery hoagie bread or submarine bread for this particular recipe! Good bread is essential in making a really good sandwich!
What is Au Jus?
Au jus is a culinary term meaning “with juice”. It refers to meat dishes prepared or served together with a light gravy, or broth, made from the fluids secreted by the meat as it is cooked.
In French cuisine, cooking au jus is a natural way to enhance the flavour of dishes.
For this recipe, the Au Jus is made in the crockpot from the meat. Simply remove the meat after it’s finished cooking and shred, then reserve some of the juice in the bottom of the crockpot for dipping.
