How To Make Easy Sourdough Pizza Crust
Making this easy sourdough pizza dough is rather simple! All you need is sourdough starter, flour, yeast, water, and salt! That’s it! You can make this recipe by hand, or use your electric mixer with a paddle attachment and dough hook.
This recipe comes together in a matter of minutes, but it does require planning ahead for rising time. The dough will double in size in a warm place in anywhere 2-3 hours.
Once the dough has been made and has risen, all you need to do is roll out the dough into a circle, top with desired toppings, and bake! Delicious homemade sourdough pizza can be made at home!
What is Sourdough Starter?
A sourdough starter is a fermented dough filled with natural, wild yeast and a bacteria called lactobacilli. The starter is what makes sourdough bread & recipes rise. Instead of using active dry yeast like in other bread recipes, sourdough bread uses a starter. Along with leavening the bread, the starter also brings that classic sour flavor.
The sourdough adds a delicious flavor to this pizza crust and it compliments many pizza toppings!
Sourdough starter can be shared with others, which is how I got mine. My aunt shared her starter with me, and now I can feed it and use it in my cooking.
If you don’t have a sourdough starter, you can make your own at home out of flour and water. View all the details on how to make your own starter here on the King Arthur Flour’s website https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/sourdough-starter-recipe.
What toppings can I use on this pizza dough?
You can use any pizza toppings you like on this sourdough pizza crust! In the images here, I topped mine with marinara sauce, pepperoni, ham, bell peppers, mushrooms, diced onions, and mozzarella cheese.
Other topping ideas would be pesto or Alfredo sauce as the base, with toppings like chicken, bacon, sausage, olives, basil, and other various types of cheeses!

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon instant or active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
