We Make These On Repeat
This recipe is too easy and too delicious not to share! I have made these cookies 3 times in the past week, and I have a friend who has made them at least 4 times too!
So total, 7 batches of Homemade Oreo Cookies have been made in the last week and there is not one left over! That is how good these little guys are!
The best part about this recipe is the simplicity of it! I have it memorized it is so easy to follow! I love that it is made with a cake mix because that saves so much time!
When you don’t have to measure out all the dry ingredients, baking goes by so much quicker! Then, you throw some eggs and shortening in there and you are ready to bake!
Once they are cooled completely, you can throw together the filling and assemble the sandwiches and you are ready to rock and roll! It is as simple and easy as that!!
Room Temperature, Chilled, Or Frozen!!
I have a little little secret tip for you that I have discovered with this recipe! Room temperature, these cookies are amazing! They are soft, and chewy, and they melt in your mouth! YUM!
BUT…… throw these babies in the freezer for a couple of hours, and they turn into little “ice-cream” sandwiches! I say “ice-cream” because the filling is that cream cheese frosting!
But, when it is frozen, it resembles ice cream without the melty mess and they are so yummy! Perfect for a hot summer day when you need to cool off with a treat!
Try it out and let me know which way you like them best, soft or frozen! I love both!!
Whenever I make this recipe, I always double it if not triple! This is one of those recipes I love to have on hand that are quick and easy that I know will taste delicious!
I get asked to make desserts a lot and this is in my top 10 favorite cookies to make! This is a simple recipes that does not lack in flavor!
I also just noticed I wrote this post with a ton of enthusiasm, using a !! at the close of every sentence! So if that doesn’t show you how excited I am about this recipe, I don’t know what will 😉

Homemade Oreo Cookies
The very best, homemade oreo cookies! Two chocolate cookies sandwiched together with cream cheese frosting in the center!
Ingredients
- 1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
For the Frosting
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, room temp
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2-4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Mix all the cookie ingredients together until incorporated.
- Roll into small balls and place on a lined or greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes. Let cool completely before filling with frosting.
To make the frosting:
- Add to your stand mixer the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla and cream together!
- Next, add the powdered sugar one cup at a time until you have a thick, creamy frosting! I like mine really thick because I like the depth it adds between the two cookies, so I use typically 4 cups!
Assembly:
- Frost the back of one cookie, find another similar in size, and sandwich them together, twisting slightly so that they stick!
- Store until ready to serve or freeze for later use!
