These Sour Cream Sugar Cookies are so tender and soft. This cake-like cookie is made rich with sour cream and butter and will so become a cookie staple recipe in your home. I guarantee it! Overnight refrigeration is required to make dough easy to roll and cut and helps the cookies hold their shape. I top mine with a delicious and ridiculously easy frosting & of course, add a little extra flare with sprinkles.
What makes these Sour Cream Sugar Cookies so delicious?
These soft sugar cookies with sour cream are great in flavor and in texture! I love them because they are melt in your mouth delicious. Why? Because I make them with all butter, no shortening! Shortening can cause cookies to get a weird aftertaste, in my opinion, and honestly I just think butter tastes better!
The sour cream in this recipe is also helping to create a rather soft and chewy cookie! Along with our leavening agents, the baking soda as well as the baking powder. All the ingredients in this recipe work well together to create the perfect sugar cookie!
Does the Sour Cream make the cookies taste sour?
Growing up I always made cut-out sugar cookies and they were good, but this Cookie recipe is my all time favorite. These old fashion sour cream sugar cookies are much lighter and stay moist thanks to the addition of the sour-cream.
I know it may seem strange to add a “sour” ingredient to a sweet cookie, but there’s nothing sour about these cookies. They are moist, delicious and hard to stop eating! These are my staple soft sugar cookie recipe with sour cream.
Can I cut these sugar cookies into any shape?
Yes! Of course! These cookies work well in any shape you want. The sour cream cut out sugar cookies are perfect in any size or shape!
I chose to cut them into large, round cookies. I actually just used the rim of the cup to cut them out. You could use any cookie cutters and turn them into any shape you want.
Same goes for the color of frosting and sprinkles! You can make those any color you want as well!
