What you’ll need to make this recipe
- 1 boxed spice cake mix
- 15-ounce can pure pumpkin
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup apple sauce
Spiced cream cheese frosting
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
What size cake pan should I use?
For this recipe, you can use any size pan that you want!
I like to bake it up on a large-rimmed baking sheet. That way, it bakes quickly, about 25 minutes, and it can serve up to 30 people!
But, you can also bake this in a 9×13 baking dish and have a thicker cake. It will need to cook for around 30 minutes.
You could also do this in two, 8-inch rounds too. They will need to bake for roughly 22 minutes.

5 ingredient pumpkin cake
The yummiest pumpkin cake that only requires five ingredients! The perfect fall dessert!
Ingredients
- 1 boxed spice cake mix
- 15-ounce can pure pumpkin
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup apple sauce
spiced cream cheese frosting
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Mix together all the cake ingredients in a large bowl or with a mixer until just incorporated.
- Pour into greased cake pan of choice.
- Bake until the toothpick comes out clean. 20-25 minutes depending on your size of pan.
- Mix together the spiced cream cheese frosting by beating together all the ingredients. Frost the cake and enjoy!
