Berry First Birthday

April 3, 2024 by Alex Daynes

Berry First Birthday

My daughter’s first birthday was this past weekend, and I am obsessed with her theme! We did “Berry First Birthday,” and everything turned out so cute! It was a fun birthday party theme for a one-year-old, and I want to share all the details with you. From her berry smash cake to her berry decor, you have to throw a berry party soon!

Berry First Birthday

I’ve had my daughter’s first birthday party theme planned since before she was born. Initially, I was due in April, and as a food blogger, I knew that April was the start of the strawberry season. With that in mind, I planned her one-year-old party before birth!

I gave birth in March, but the show must go on! The berry party was still happening!

The week of her birthday was busy because we went out of town, but the party details all came together nicely with a few pre-party preparations.

Here are all the details of my baby girl’s “berry first” birthday party!

Sweet One Smash Cake

Every one-year-old needs to make a small cake of sorts! Whether homemade or store-bought, a whole cake or a slice, or even just a cupcake, it’s such a fun little activity for new eaters to enjoy.

I made my daughter’s smash cake!

I baked up Funfetti cake batter in two ramekins. Once the cake was baked, I let it cool completely before stacking the two cake slices.

I made some frosting and stacked the two cakes together, with a little strawberry preserve between the layers for a berry touch. I frosted the outside and added a few piping details.

Then, of course, I surrounded the cake, the fresh strawberries, and a “sweet one” cake topper from Temu.

I built the cake on a cake board for easy transportation and cleanup. It made for a picture-perfect smash cake that my daughter loved!

Berry Treats & More

For the party, we ordered pizza and made a Costco Caesar salad mix, the primary food since I was out of town before the party. It worked out great!

I also made a few berry cups using these adorable plastic pink champagne glasses. I layered blueberries, raspberries, and sliced strawberries in each one. I finished off a few of the glasses with a strawberry skewer.

I also made strawberry brownie kabobs using Costco brownies and fresh strawberries. These were a hit!

I made a homemade lemonade for the drink and served it with strawberry puree so guests could make it a pink lemonade.

Berry Cupcakes

Since the smash cake was all for my daughter, we decided to make cupcakes for all the guests—chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with strawberry frosting!

To tie in with the berry theme, we topped each cupcake with half a strawberry.

I think these turned out so adorable, and they were so easy to make!

Berry Decor

I found a lot of my berry decor from Temu. It was inexpensive, and my order came within about a week.

I ordered a strawberry garland to hang her monthly baby pictures on. This might have been my favorite touch of the whole party! It was so fun to see how she had grown.

This cute tassel banner wrapped around her highchair made her smash cake pictures so cute!

We also grabbed some of My Minds Eye’s berry products, including adorable berry plates, napkins, and a strawberry banner.

I also printed a welcome to my daughter’s berry first birthday sign.

First Birthday Party

We went all out since this was my daughter’s “berry first” birthday party. You only get a first birthday once!

Feel free to use one, two, or even all of my ideas for your next event! Having a berry party was so much fun and the perfect spring celebration!

You no longer have the visual explanation 🤰 for how you’re feeling on the inside.

You may look “normal” again but you don’t feel yourself.

Your clothes don’t fit like they used to. The weights are lighter than normal. The workouts don’t feel like they did before.

You have to work to find yourself again.

I always say exercising after birth is much harder than exercising pregnant.

Keep showing up. Keep pushing. Keep rebuilding.

Agree or Disagree?? I was so nervous to have ano Agree or Disagree??

I was so nervous to have another baby after my daughter because honestly everything felt so hard the first time. Everything was new, I was constantly nervous, filled with anxiety, and often times couldn’t imagine adding any more kids to the mix.

Fast forward to 6 weeks in to two kids and I am loving it! I’m a more confident mother, I know what I’m doing and I know what to expect, expectations are manageable and above all I’m so happy. We are thriving instead of just surviving the newborn phase this time around!

Having all the knowledge, tools, and gear made this 1-2 transition so simple this time! But we do still need a double stroller so big sis doesn’t have to ride in the basket underneath 😜 drop your favorite doubles below!
